Windows Vista is the next version of Microsoft's Windows opperating system. It was previously code named Longhorn. The name "Vista" was first revieled on July 22, 2005. Windows Vista has a number of new features. A quick overview of these includes:

  • A completely new user-interface, called Aero. Aero is an acronym for Authentic, Energetic, Reflective and Open.
  • Improved searching technology, simply named "Search".
  • An XML specification for document formats, similiar to Adobe's PDF files.
  • Windows Vista Networking -- A brand new networking stack; taking advantage of peer-to-peer technology.
  • The Vista operating system will include the .NET framework.

Windows Vista will most likely be available in one of nine different editions.
